Apanamae Productions, a multi-media visual arts organization, aims to
produce socially based art exhibits and performance productions that
critically reflect the issues of our current day and time. Our mission
is to utilize art as a means to expose the reality of our nation's
attitudes towards race, gender, class, and sexuality - while
simultaneously reflecting, representing, and reanalyzing various
socio-political issues that affect oppressed peoples as a whole.
In general my work can be seen as portraits of our
American existence through both a racial and economic scope. Through
multi-media paintings, installations, and performances I wish to expose
the reality of our cash-culture and nation's attitudes towards race, sex,
class, and customs: "reflecting, representing, and reanalyzing
various socio-political issues, especially that of the black
experience". I am drawn towards the consumer aspect of cultural
propaganda through mainstream media. Technically the surfaces of my work
are rich highly textured acrylic portraits with images both collected and collaged
from popular media publications. In 2000 I created Apanamae Productions, a
multi-media visual art organization with the aim of producing socially based art
exhibits and performance art productions that subjectively reflect the issues
of our current day and time. And with the intent of presenting self-realized
projects to as general and broad of an audience as possible. My ultimate
goal is to formalize a performance art troupe that tours locally
and nationally. I also plan to continue producing public art
projects and to curate both solo and group exhibitions all with the purpose of
reflecting our everyday existence for everybody and everyone.
