Ricardo Osmondo Francis

Ricardo Osmondo-Francis (b. September 8, 1976, Houston, Texas) is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work explores identity, culture, memory, and the political dimensions of representation. He earned his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1998.

A founding member of BLAFTCO, an alternative visual arts collective, Francis began conceptualizing and producing large-scale projects and exhibitions early in his career. Since 1992, he has developed innovative, community-based multimedia works and exhibitions, including The New Museum (1994), Public Opinion (1996), and All Sizes/Real People (1997).

In 2000, he established Apanamae Productions, his independent visual arts company, through which he has produced numerous solo exhibitions. Early solo projects include Exhibit A (2002) and New sKIN (2003). More recent exhibitions include MYTHIC POETIC (2016), RE:VIEW (2018), TO BE CONTINUED (2020), and 2020, which premiered at The Community Artists' Collective in Houston before traveling to Newark and West Orange, New Jersey in 2021.

His exhibition The Black Iconic premiered at the Riverfront Art Gallery in Yonkers, New York, followed by The GOLDEN State, which debuted at 7 Space Art Gallery in Newark, New Jersey in 2025.

Francis currently lives in the New York metropolitan area and maintains his studio at Project for Empty Space in Newark, New Jersey.
